sufficient amount of energy, especially during the early lactation period. Energy intake can be maximised by increasing the energy density of the diet.
This is achieved by introducing fat into the total feed diet.

Fat contains approximately 2.25 times as much energy as contained in 1 kg of carbohydrates, thus the energy density of the diet can be increased
by replacing carbohydrates in the diet with fat.
