- In detail
The iron-zinc alloy coating is harder and more brittle than the soft zinc coating of hot-dip galvanized. This harder coating is more resistant to scratches during handling, but also may show a greater tendency toward "powdering" of the coating during difficult forming operations. Careful process control during the production of Galvannealed coatings combined with proper forming practices during part fabrication can minimize the powdering and achieve excellent results
Galvanneal, a Hot Dipped Galvanized Steel can be used rather than Cold Rolled Steel with factory applied primers. Galvanneal was developed for the automotive industry by the steel mills to combat the ravaging effects of corrosion most common on vehicles in the 1960's. Most automobile manufactured today do not rust as quickly as older vehicles because automobile manufacturers today uses Galvanneal or a sister product Galvalume for body & body parts.
