Arm Lift surgery
- Men and women who have excessive loose skin and flabby fat on their arms that will not respond to normal diet and exercise.
- Women and men who loose skin elasticity following significant weight gain or weight loss, especially related to Gastric Bypass surgery or pregnancy.
Although techniques for Arm Lift surgery vary slightly between surgeons, a standard procedure typically involves liposuction to remove surplus fat and skin tailoring surgery to tighten loose skin.
Liposuction removes surplus fat through a narrow suction devise known as a cannula (please see our separate patient fact sheet detailing liposuction in full detail). The skin tightening part of the procedure is carried out by excising a slim oval shaped portion of skin from the underside of each arm and sewing the remaining skin edges together to form a tighter fit around the slimmed down arm shape.
Following surgery the incision wounds are covered with an absorbent dressing and each arm supported with a firm elastic compression garment, which will help control swelling and bruising as the new scars heal. It is common for two or more surgical drains to be left in place for a day following surgery to drain away any early post-operative discharge.
